The complete and honest account of what AIWise collects, what it does not collect, and exactly how your data is handled across every platform.
The Simple Truth
We collect only your name, email address, and subscription status — the minimum needed to manage your account and deliver the service. Everything else stays on your device.
When you use the AI assistant, your typed messages go to the Anthropic API to generate a response. That is the only time data leaves your device during normal use. We do not store those messages on our servers.
The overlay feature on desktop and Android detects which application you are using — nothing more. It does not read your documents. It does not capture what you type. It does not send anything to us.
We will never share your data with advertisers.
We will never use your data to train AI models.

What We Do Not Collect
AIWise is architecturally designed to minimise data collection. The following data is not collected, not transmitted, and not stored by us under any circumstances:
- The content of your documents, essays, or assignments
- What you type in any application other than the AI assistant chat
- Screenshots or visual captures of your screen
- Your location, IP address, or device identifier beyond what your browser sends in a standard HTTP request
- Your contacts, calendar, photos, or any media
- Browser history or search queries
- Biometric data of any kind
- The identity of other students at your institution
- Your grades, academic performance, or submission history outside the app
The Overlay and Accessibility Features
The AIWise desktop overlay and Android accessibility service are optional features that allow you to log AI tool usage without switching apps. Here is exactly what they do:
The AI Assistant and Anthropic API
When you use the built-in AI assistant, your typed messages are sent to the Anthropic API to generate a response. This is the only data transmission that occurs during normal use of AIWise beyond account authentication.
Not sent: Your name, email, student ID, AI usage logs, declaration history, uploaded policy documents, or any other stored data.
Stored by us: Not stored. Session only.
Anthropic's use: Subject to Anthropic's Privacy Policy at anthropic.com/privacy. Anthropic does not use API inputs to train models by default.
You can use all core AIWise features — logging AI use, generating declarations, checking policy compliance — without ever using the AI assistant. The assistant is an optional convenience feature.

Marketing Communications
We may send you marketing emails only if you explicitly opt in during registration. The checkbox is unchecked by default. We will never add you to a marketing list without your knowledge.
If you opt in, you may receive:
- Product updates and new feature announcements
- Tips on using AIWise effectively for academic compliance
- Occasional news relevant to AI policy in higher education
You can unsubscribe at any time by:
- Clicking the unsubscribe link in any marketing email
- Emailing privacy@aiwise.me
- Updating your preferences in the Profile tab within the app
Your Rights Under GDPR
As an Irish-registered service, AIWise is subject to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) is our lead supervisory authority. You have the following rights:
To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@aiwise.me. We will respond within 30 days. There is no charge for exercising your rights.
Platform-Specific Statements
Data used for tracking: None.
Data not collected: Location, financial info, health, contacts, messages, photos, audio, browsing history, search history.
Accessibility Services: Not used on iOS. Share Extension only, activated at your explicit request.
Data encrypted in transit: Yes — TLS on all transmissions.
Users can request deletion: Yes — in-app or by email.
Accessibility Services: Used on Android to detect foreground app name only. Does not read screen content, capture input, or transmit data off-device.
Third-party sharing: Anthropic API (assistant messages only), Google Play (billing).
Security and Data Retention
Security measures: All data transmitted to our servers uses TLS encryption. Account passwords are stored using one-way cryptographic hashing and are never readable by us or anyone else. On-device data is stored in your browser local storage, protected by your device security.
AIWise is hosted on IONOS Frankfurt, Germany — within the European Union — ensuring your account data remains in the EEA.
Data retention:
- Account data: retained while your account is active and for 12 months after deletion as required by Irish law
- On-device data: retained until you delete it manually or delete your account
- Marketing consent records: retained until you withdraw consent
- AI assistant messages: not retained by us — session only
Children: AIWise is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has registered, please contact privacy@aiwise.me immediately and we will delete the account.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data or any request you have made, you have the right to lodge a complaint directly with the Irish Data Protection Commission without first contacting us, though we would welcome the opportunity to address any concerns you have.
Changes to this policy: We will notify you by email at least 30 days before any material change to this policy takes effect. Continued use of AIWise after that date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. The current version is always available at aiwise.me/privacy.
